Avenlur Baby

Wooden, Montessori-inspired baby gear for the first years: foldable playpens, indoor baby swings, bouncers, rockers and baby play gyms. Start with what your day needs. A wooden baby playpen gives a safe floor space with sensory panels built in. Spruce is an indoor baby swing with its own stand, so nothing mounts to the ceiling. Fir and Hemlock are a gentle bouncer and rocker for newborns, and Ivy is a 3-in-1 bouncer that converts as your baby grows.

Wooden Baby Gear for the First Years

Montessori thinking for babies is simple: give a child a safe space, a clear view of the room and the freedom to move, and let them work out the rest. That shapes everything in this collection. Open play yards instead of small enclosed pens, bouncers that move with a baby instead of motorized seats, and natural wood instead of molded plastic.

Our baby gear is tested to ASTM and CPSIA standards. Most pieces fold flat, because baby gear that can't be put away tends to take over a living room.

Wooden Baby Playpens and Play Yards

A wooden baby playpen gives a crawler a safe place to play while you cook, work or step away for a minute. Our 63 x 63 inch sensory playpen has room for a baby, toys and a parent, and the 93 x 63 inch playpen gives almost 50% more floor space for twins or siblings. Every set folds flat without tools, and the walls are 24 inches high.

The panels are what make a Montessori playpen a play space rather than a holding pen. Activity panels with spinners, xylophone bars, geometric blocks and tactile ribbons sit at baby height, and the mirror and whiteboard playpen adds a shatter-resistant mirror with a standing bar that flips to a wipe-clean whiteboard. On hard floors, add a playpen mat sized to fit. Need more room later? Add-on panels click onto any Avenlur playpen.

Indoor Baby Swings, Bouncers and Rockers

For newborns and young infants, a bouncer or rocker is the place to start. The Fir is a foldable wooden bouncer with a harness and a removable play arch, and it moves with your baby’s own kicks instead of a motor. The Hemlock is a gentle wooden rocker with a waist strap and adjustable legs that limit or stop the rocking, and it converts into a toddler seat. The Ivy starts as a play gym, becomes a supported bouncer and activity center, then turns into a toddler table.

Once your baby is about 6 months old, an indoor swing comes into play. Spruce is a wooden baby swing with its own stand, so there’s no ceiling hook or doorway bar to install. It’s made for 6 months to 3 years, up to 33 pounds, and folds flat when you need the room back.

Wooden Baby Play Gyms

A wooden baby play gym gives a newborn something to look at during floor time and, a few weeks later, something to reach for. The Lilac has soft, detachable hanging toys and is designed for babies from newborn to about 12 months. Lay your baby on a soft mat underneath, stay close, and swap the toys as their interest changes.

How to Choose Baby Gear by Stage

What does a newborn need?

A baby play gym for floor time and a bouncer or rocker for supervised awake time. Bouncers and rockers are not for sleep, so move your baby to a crib or bassinet if they doze off.

What works from 4 to 9 months?

As your baby starts to sit, roll and push up, a playpen becomes the center of the day, and activity panels give little hands something to do. From about 6 months, an indoor swing like the Spruce adds gentle movement.

What about 9 to 18 months?

Pulling up and cruising. Playpen rails and the mirror’s standing bar get daily use, and a Pikler triangle makes a good first climber.

What lasts past the baby stage?

Convertible pieces: the Ivy becomes a toddler table, the Hemlock becomes a toddler seat, the Spruce swings up to 3 years and the playpen’s whiteboard keeps toddlers drawing. For more help, read our baby bouncers guide and baby and toddler swings guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a playpen Montessori?

A Montessori playpen is a safe, open floor space a baby can explore freely, with natural materials and things to discover, like a mirror and sensory panels. It’s designed as a place to play, not just a place to contain a baby.

How big is the Avenlur wooden baby playpen?

The 8-panel playpen is 63 x 63 inches and the 10-panel playpen is 93 x 63 inches, both with 24-inch walls. Every set folds flat without tools.

Can a newborn use a baby swing?

Our Spruce indoor swing is made for babies from 6 months to 3 years. For newborns, a bouncer or rocker like the Fir or Hemlock is the better choice for supervised awake time.

Do indoor baby swings need to be mounted to the ceiling?

Not the Spruce. It comes with its own wooden stand, so nothing attaches to the ceiling or a doorframe, and it folds away when you’re done.

Can a baby sleep in a bouncer or rocker?

No. Bouncers and rockers are for supervised awake time. If your baby falls asleep, move them to a crib or bassinet with a firm, flat mattress.

What is the difference between a baby bouncer and a rocker?

A bouncer’s flexible frame moves up and down as your baby kicks and wiggles. A rocker rocks gently on curved legs. The Hemlock’s adjustable legs can also stop the rocking so it works as a seat.

When should I stop using a baby bouncer?

Stop once your baby can sit up on their own, tries to climb out or reaches the weight limit. A convertible bouncer like the Ivy can then switch to its next mode.

Does baby gear need assembly?

Most pieces arrive flat packed with step-by-step instructions. Playpens and the Spruce swing fold rather than come apart, so you only set them up once.
