School Furniture
Wooden Classroom Furniture for Schools and Nurseries
Classroom furniture takes more punishment than anything in a home. Twenty children, five days a week, chairs dragged rather than lifted, tables wiped down constantly. Ours is built for that: solid wood frames, adjustable legs, finishes that survive repeated cleaning, and no fixings a child can work loose.
The range covers preschools, nurseries, Montessori classrooms, church programs, libraries and homeschool rooms. We supply schools directly and can quote on larger orders.
Getting the Sizes Right
Seat height drives everything. A child should sit with feet flat on the floor and thighs parallel to it, with the tabletop at about elbow height. Too high and they perch; too low and they slump, and both show up in handwriting before they show up in complaints.
Because a single room often spans two years of growth, most of our classroom tables adjust across a range rather than fixing at one height, which means one set of tables covers a mixed age group and carries over when the group moves up.
Our classroom table and chair sizing guide sets out the recommended heights by age.
Open Shelving and Montessori Storage
Montessori classrooms use low, open shelving for a reason: a child chooses work they can see, takes it to a table and returns it without an adult. Deep cupboards and closed bins break that cycle. Open back shelves also let light through and keep sightlines across the room, which matters for supervision.
Front facing bookshelves display covers rather than spines, which is what a pre-reader navigates by. Cubbies give each child a named place for a coat and a bag, and they take most of the friction out of arrival and pickup.
Buying for a Classroom
-
Count the seats first: Work out how many children sit at once, then choose table shapes. Rectangles seat more per square foot; rounds suit discussion and shared work.
-
Plan for mixed ages: Adjustable legs cover a range of heights and avoid buying twice.
-
Leave room to move: Allow about three feet behind each chair so children can get in and out without moving the table.
-
Shelving at child height: Everything a child is meant to use should be reachable without a step.
-
Finishes: Non-toxic and wipe clean, because classroom furniture gets cleaned far more often than furniture at home.
Frequently Asked Questions
What table and chair heights do I need?
A child should sit with feet flat on the floor and the tabletop at roughly elbow height. Our sizing guide lists recommended seat and table heights by age group, and many of our tables adjust across a range.
Do you supply schools and preschools directly?
Yes. We work with preschools, nurseries, Montessori schools, churches and homeschool groups, and can quote on larger orders.
Is this furniture suitable for daily classroom use?
It is built for it: solid wood construction, adjustable hardware and finishes that stand up to repeated cleaning.
What makes shelving Montessori?
Low, open and uncluttered, so a child can see what is available, take it and return it independently. That self-direction is the point of the layout.
What is the furniture made of?
Solid wood with non-toxic, BPA-free finishes, built to ASTM and CPSIA standards.
Does classroom furniture arrive assembled?
Most arrives flat packed with pre-drilled hardware and assembles in under an hour per piece. Everything carries our five-year warranty.
